Immutable Infrastructure in the Mesos Ecosystem – Kevin Sweeney, Twitter

Organizations want fast and safe software deploys, orderly rollbacks, and tightly-controlled infrastructure changes. “Immutable infrastructure”, infrastructure that can be entirely created and recreated at will from a single specification makes all these things possible. Containers are excellent tools for implementing immutable infrastructure, but containers alone are neither necessary nor sufficient. This talk explores techniques used to create immutable infrastructure with Mesos and their shortcomings, such as waiting too long to resolve external state. In addition, it explores ways in which the infrastructure hosting Mesos must itself promise immutability to remain reliable at scale. Speakers Kevin Sweeney
